EDC Dog Poem1 150x146 Dog Inspired Poems A Dog’s Soul

By Unknown Author

Every dog must have a soul
Somewhere deep inside
Where all his hurts and grievances
Are buried with his pride.

Where he decides the good and bad,
The wrong way from the right,
And where his judgment carefully
Is hidden from our sight.

A dog must have a secret place
Where every thought abides,
A sort of close acquaintance that
He trusts in and confides.

And when accused unjustly for
Himself, He cannot speak,
Rebuked, He finds within his soul
The comfort he must seek.

He’ll love, tho’he is unloved,
And he’ll serve tho’badly used,
And one kind word will wipe away
The times when he’s abused.

Altho’ his heart may break in two
His love will still be whole,
Because God gave to every dog
An understanding Soul!

EDC Dog Poem2 Dog Inspired Poems A Dog

– By Egdgar A. Guest

“Tis pity not to have a dog, for at the
long day’s end, The man or boy will
know the joy, Of welcome from a friend.
And whether he be rich or poor, Or much
of little bring, The dog will mark his
step and bark, As if he were a King.
Though gossips whisper now and then,
Of faults they plainly see, And some
may sneer, from year to year, My dog
stays true to me. He’s glad to follow
where I go, And though I win or fail,
His love for me he’ll let me see, By
wagging his tail. Now if I were to list
the friends Of mine in smiles and tears,
ho through and through are staunch and
and true, And constant down the years,
In spite of all my many faults,
Which critics catalog, Deserving blame,
I’d have to name My ever-faithful dog.
“Tis pity not to have a dog, Whatever be
his breed, for Dogs possess a faithfulness,
Which humans sadly need. And whether
skys be blue or gray, Good luck or ill
Attend, Man’s toil by day, a dog will stay,
His ever-constant friend…….

EDC Dog Poem3 150x150 Dog Inspired Poems A Dog’s Best Friend

– By Unknown Author

O Lord, don’t let me once forget,
How I love my trusty pet
Help me learn to disregard
canine craters in my yard
Show me how to be a buddy
even when my sofa’s muddy
Don’t allow my pooch to munch
postal carriers for lunch
Shield my neighbor’s cat from view
guide my steps around the doo
Train me not to curse and scowl
when it’s puppy’s night to howl
Grant I shan’t awake in fear
with a cold nose in my ear
Give me patience without end
Help me be “A DOG’S BEST FRIEND”

EDC Dog Poem4 131x150 Dog Inspired Poems Little dog angel

– By Unknown Author

High up in the courts of Heaven today
A little dog angel waits;
With the other angels he will not play
But sits alone at the gates.
“I know that my master will come, says he
And when he comes he will call for me.”

He sees the spirits that pass him by
As they hasten toward the throne;
And he watches them with a wistful eye
As he sits at the gates alone.
“I know if I just wait patiently
Some day my master will come,” says he.

And his master, far on the earth below,
As he sits in his easy chair,
Forgets sometimes and he whistles low
For the dog that isn’t there.
And the little dog angel cocks his ears
And dreams that his master’s call he hears.

I know when at last his master waits
Outside in the dark and cold,
For the hand of Death to open the gates
That lead to those courts of gold,
The little dog angel’s eager bark
Will comfort his soul in the shivering dark.

EDC Dog Poem5 150x150 Dog Inspired Poems Four Feet

- By Rudyard Kipling

I have done mostly what men do,
And pushed it out of my mind;
But I can’t forget, if I wanted to,
Four-Feet trotting behind.

Day after day, the whole day through–
Wherever my road inclined–
Four-Feet said, ‘I am coming with you!’
And trotted along behind.

Now I must go by some other round–
Which I shall never find–
Some where that does not carry the sound
Of Four-Feet trotting behind.

EDC Dog Poem6 Dog Inspired Poems A Prayer For Animals

- ByAlbert Schweitzer

Hear our humble prayer, O God,
for our friends the animals,
especially for animals who are suffering;
for any that are hunted or lost or deserted
or frightened or hungry;
for all that must be put to death.
We entreat for them all Thy mercy and pity,
and for those who deal with them
we ask a heart of compassion and gentle hands and kindly words.
Make us, ourselves, to be true friends to animals
and so to share the blessings of the merciful.

EDC Dog Poem7 150x141 Dog Inspired Poems Rainbow Bridge

– By Unknown Author

When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge.

There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together. There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.

All the animals that had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor. Those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by.

The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind.

They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent. His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.

You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.

Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together….

EDC Dog Poem8 139x150 Dog Inspired Poems Alone Again

– By Unknown Author

I wish someone would tell me what it is
That I’ve done wrong.

Why I have to stay chained up and
Left alone so long.

They seemed so glad to have me when
I came as a pup.

There were so many things we’d do
While I was growing up.

They couldn’t wait to train me as a
Companion and a friend.

And told me how they’d never fear
Being left alone again.

The children said they’d feed me and
Brush me every day.

They’d play with me and walk me
If I could only stay.

But now the family “Hasn’t Time”;
They often say I shed.

They do not want me in the house
Not even to be fed.

The children never walk me
They always say, “NOT NOW!”

I wish that I could please them
Won’t someone tell me how?

All I had, you see, was love.
I wish they would explain

Why they said they wanted me,
Then left me on a chain?

EDC Dog Poem10 150x150 Dog Inspired Poems Old Dog  In A Locket

– By Unknown Author

Old dog in a locket That lies next to my heart
I will always love you As I did right from the start

You were right beside me Through the darkest of my days
It was your kind and gentle nature That made me want to stay

Now I hold you in my arms Your breath still warm against my hand
Our hearts still beat together And I wonder if you understand

Through the hours that I held you Before the light did leave your soul
I knew a way to keep you Forever in my hold

I snipped the hair from around your eyes So I would always see
The beauty that surrounds me Even in times of need

I snipped the hair from around your ears So I would always hear
Music in the distance To quiet any fears

I snipped the hair from across your back
To bring me strength in time of need
And the power of your essence Would always be with me

I snipped the hair from around your heart That beat in time with mine
So I would know that love would find me At some distant time

And so, your life slipped out of mine On a quiet spring like day
But I knew that a part of you Old dog in a locket
That lays next to my heart I will always love you
Even though we had to part

EDC Dog Poem111 150x150 Dog Inspired Poems A Stump For A Tail

– By Unknown Author

You can’t buy loyalty, they say
I bought it though, the other day;
You can’t buy friendship, tried and true,
Well just the same, I bought that too.
I made my bid, and on the spot
Bought love and faith and a whole job lot
Of happiness, so all in all
The purchase price was pretty small.
I bought a single trusting heart,
That gave devotion from the start.
If you think these things are not
for sale, Buy a brown-eyed puppy with
a stump for a tail.

EDC Dog Poem12a 150x150 Dog Inspired Poems To Flush My Dog

– By Elizabeth Barrett Browning

Yet, my pretty sportive friend,
Little is’t to such an end
That I praise thy rareness!
Other dogs may be thy peers
Haply in these drooping ears,
And this glossy fairness.

But of thee it shall be said,
This dog watched beside a bed
Day and night unweary
Watched within a curtained room,
Where no sunbeam brake the gloom
Round the sick and dreary.

Roses, gathered for a vase,
In that chamber died apace,
Beam and breeze resigning.
This dog only, waited on,
Knowing that when light is gone
Love remains for shining.

Other dogs in thymy dew
Tracked the hares, and followed through
Sunny moor or meadow.
This dog only, crept and crept
Next a languid cheek that slept,
Sharing in the shadow.

Other dogs of loyal cheer
Bounded at the whistle clear,
Up the woodside hieing.
This dog only, watched in reach
Of a faintly uttered speech,
Or a louder sighing.

And if one or two quick tears
Dropped upon his glossy ears,
Up he sprang in eager haste,
Fawning, fondling, breathing fast,
In a tender trouble.

And this dog was satisfied
If a pale thin hand would glide
Down his dewlaps sloping
Which he pushed his nose within,
After—platforming his chin
On the palm left open.
